 Uvieta's Wishes:

A trickster tale from Costa Rica. The cosmic mayhem will unfold as old man Uvieta flusters saints, annoys angels, spooks the devil and outwits Death… Just where will his journey end?…
Drawing on New World indigenous trickster characters and Spanish medieval legends of wily rogues and rascals, Magical Rain Theaterworks brings you its version of "Uvieta". Uvieta is a Costa Rican folk character. This play was created and adapted for the stage by Ike Vasquez and Dan Runyan, based on a story retold and written by the Costa Rican author Carmen Lira.

This is a lively, humorous story of an old trickster who earns 3 wishes by his kind acts… At first all is well, and heaven smiles down upon him… but then he lets his new gifts go to his head, and all sorts of strange things break loose. The staging features masks and props that convey the other-worldly settings of the story, as well as a number of comic surprises, twists and turns… A spirited performance....

"I watched a delightful performance of theirs, Uvieta's Wishes. There was obvious skill in acting, it was expressive in its storytelling, and the sets and costumes were imaginative. The students seemed to enjoy the performance immensely, engaging the actors in a brief question and answer session following the performance." - Jill Waskowski - Teacher, Portage Central High School
